Because like Citizen Kane, they did things that were new. CK had ceilings, Inception had smooth transitioning graphics that were part of the real and accepted world (in contrast to say, Avatar or LOTR) or destroy that world ( like Day After Tomorrow)
But they weren’t anything special.

i don’t think HBC deserves to win for her role in the king’s speech. her character was nothing special, imo. not saying she didn’t do well, she did, but it wasn’t an outstanding role to me. i think that Geoffrey Rush deserves far more recognition than he’s getting.
